From Here, It's Mostly Downhill aims to document the birth and the making of a photographic project.
For two years, photographer James Wright worked on Terra Incognita, a project about time. He studied how natural landscapes, perceived as immutable, change with the seasons. Beyond making photographs, the project involved periods of total immersion in the wilderness as it took place in the uninhabited west coast of the isle of Jura (Inner Hebrides, Scotland).
During the making of his project, I followed him exploring the island, facing the landscape, anticipating the changes to build a series of images, and repeatedly going back to the same locations to recreate photos that are similar, yet different.
From Here, It's Mostly Downhill takes an intimate look at the creative process, the achievements as well as the doubts. It tells the story of the unseen, of what it takes to create.

Avec From Here It's Mostly Downhill je souhaitais documenter la naissance et la réalisation d'un long projet photographique.
Le photographe James Wright a travaillé pendant deux ans sur une série photographique, Terra Incognita, qui interroge le temps et plus spécifiquement les traces de son passage sur des paysages perçus comme immuables. Le projet, réalisé sur la côte ouest inhabitée de l'île de Jura (Hébrides Intérieures, Écosse) impliquait des périodes de totale immersion dans des paysages sauvages.
Je l'ai suivi dans ses explorations et observé alors qu'il se confrontait au paysage, anticipait les changements pour construire une série d'images et retournait encore et encore aux mêmes endroits pour recréer des photos qui, bien que semblables, sont différentes.
From Here It's Mostly Downhill est un regard intime sur le processus créatif, les accomplissements tout autant que les doutes. Cette série donne à voir l'invisible et ce que cela implique de créer.
